Seeking help from “albularyo" / “mananawas" or faith healer, witch doctors, etc. is a norm in the Philippines especially in the remote areas.
Filipinos believe that they heal some diseases that the medical doctor can’t cure. Albularyos use herbs and spiritual techniques as a medium to heal their patients. They use candles, water, and chant to see what causes the patient’s incurable disease.
My girlfriend’s grandmother knows a bit about faith healing and is knowledgeable in herbs. She told me that they use two methods to heal their diseases in her family: seek help from medical doctors and use faith healing and natural herbs.
She also added medical advisers could not scientifically explain some symptoms. So they use the albularyo method and miraculously heal. But whether albularyos are legit or not, natural herbs in the wilds are beneficial for healing.
